“The Markam-Nathan grant will enable us to support Matthew Barlow, our new Humanities Coordinator, with a budget for honoraria, materials and mileage as he develops new programs for our Humanities. He is already at work planning a gallery display about FACES OF MEDICINE, a documentary project celebrating the paths of Black female physicians both throughout the United States and in Massachusetts specifically. We also envision screening Episode 1 of this series, which features Dr. Rose Cesar of Greenfield among others, and hosting one or more speakers to tell us more. We will be reaching out specifically to young people, including those of Gloria Matlock’s Twice as Smart program and hope it will inspire and empower them to consider careers in medicine.
We are so grateful for Markham-Nathan’s focus on social justice and your consistent support of our programs.” Jan Maher, LAVA
