Racial Justice Rising, one of our fall 2024 grantees
The MNF provides grants of up to $4000 to small activist organizations in Western Massachusetts that are dedicated to organizing and supporting the poor and powerless for a more just and peaceful world.
Year-round we also offer an emergency grant for up $500 to cover urgent costs that social justice organizations might encounter. Since late summer 2024 MNF now also accepts application for the organizing of urgent social justice events. Grounded in this change we were able to offer an emergency grant for vigil to honor the life of Sonya Massey in Springfield.
Many of our grantees are organizations that center on the currently and formerly incarcerated, like The Compost Co-operative in Greenfield, MA. They not only work to reduce food waste but also seek to implement transformative justice solutions to foster equality and the damaging prison system. We gladly support their work to train workers to further remove barriers to employment.
We also provided a grant to Racial Justice Rising (Greenfield, MA) to assist in their work on racial justice. Our grant will help support their Empowering Communities program.
MNF realizes the importance of the arts in social justice movements, to maintain them and to build them. Our grants can be offered to organizations that deeply embed social justice work into their work.
Local Access to Valley Arts (LAVA, Greenfield, MA) received a grant from MNF because of their continued efforts to combine a variety of arts with that of social justice work. Their latest effort will feature a variety of local groups in an event that features “Songs of Resistance, Survival, and Hope” (working title).
During these times of intense political strive and real fear, MNF continues to steadfastly hold on to the hope that grassroots organizations in our area can bring about real progress and improve people’s lives in our area and beyond. Our work continues.
