“Straw Dog Writers Guild and the WriteAngles Conference are committed to supporting underrepresented writers. Whether they be young, queer, low-income, or writers of color, we encourage all writers who strive to make change through their words and in their communities. Even a reasonably-priced conference is prohibitively expensive for many writers. Last year, the WriteAngles Conference underwrote over $5000 in registration fees and offered ASL interpreters. As a Deaf writer wrote after the conference, “I am so excited because this is the first time a writing conference provided me with accommodations. Thank you!”

For the 2025 conference, we will work with Greenfield Community College, and Holyoke Community College, along with both our current and former Emerging Writing Fellows, to provide opportunities for writers who could not otherwise attend WriteAngles. Through the Markham Nathan grant, we will provide scholarship funding for 30 participants, helping us honor the collective power for change and transformation in our communities.” Morgan
